THE VARGO DRAGWAYHere is a slideshow of photos from the old Vargo Dragway taken 1962-63. The track, built by racing enthusiast Jake Vargo on land he owned near Perkasie in Bucks County, Pa., opened in 1960 and initially was operated by the Lehigh Valley Timing Association. The first event was run April 24, 1960, as 1/8th-mile drag races. By September, quarter-mile drags were being run. The last race was run in 1969, after Vargo died and his widow was unable to keep it going. A reunion show is held each fall at the site, now part of the AGA Farms property.
Go to the Vargo Dragway website for information about the annual reunion show, held each year on the first Saturday in November at the site.
